Each interval between the frames of a metal building is a “bay.”
Simpson Steel Building Company’s steel truss structures have a standard maximum span of 20’ in between beams and trusses. Underneath the beams and trusses, the building is a clear span building. While our standard maximum span is 20’ between the trusses, increased load requirements can decrease the maximum spacing allowed for the building.
Bay spacing can be modified as necessary to accommodate door spacing and layouts, as long as the spacing does not exceed maximum bay width determined by snow load requirements. Adding bay spacing for your building could change the cost of the finished product, so be sure to include this detail in your initial conversation when beginning the building project.
